Overview
Pathways to Support
Pathways to Support has been developed as a flexible pathway into structured psycho-social interventions for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance misuse issues, who are linked to the Criminal Justice System.
Service users will have the option of undertaking structured counselling on a one-to-one basis and/or groupwork, with this depending on need and the point they are at in treatment.
The Pathways to Support provision has a number of different components. These are:-
- Counselling Assessment
- Foundation Groupwork Programme
- Pathways to Recovery Groupwork Programme and keyworking sessions
- Mutual Aid Support Programme including ‘Recovery Champion Training’
Foundation Groupwork Programme
The Foundation Groupwork Programme will be run on a frequent basis and will provide service users with the opportunity to experience groupwork and to make an informed choice as to whether the Pathways to Recovery Programme will be of benefit. The programme consists of four sessions which address the following topics:
- Lifestyle Balance
- Destructive Behaviours
- Mental Wellbeing
- Recovery

SMART Recovery Groups
As the Pathway to Support Programme progresses, participants will be offered opportunities to join an open-ended mutual aid group, supported by Helping Groups to Grow. Service users have the opportunity to train both as group leaders and recovery champions.
Helping Groups to Grow will work with SMART Recovery to train programme graduates as Recovery Champions.
SMART Recovery UK uses an e-learning platform to deliver most of the training needed by Facilitators and Champions. For further information, please see their website - www.training.smartrecovery.org.uk
