Pathways to Recovery

Evaluation

Programme Evaluation

An independent evaluation of the Pathways to Recovery group programme has been completed by Dr Lee Hogan, Consultant Psychologist in April 2011.

This evaluation incorporated a statistical analysis of treatment outcomes based on a number of standardised mental health and substance misuse measures administered to all group members before and after their participation on the 12 week group programme.  An extensive qualitative analysis was also undertaken as part of this evaluation which included interviews with service users, partner agency managers and staff and the group programme leaders.

The results showed clinically significant improvements for the participants of the Pathways to Recovery group programme, in all areas measured.  These included, for example, significant increases in mood and social functioning, and significant reductions in anxiety scores and substance dependence.

The feedback collected from interviews, questionnaires and focus groups was unanimously positive, with many service users and service providers commenting on the usefulness and positive impact the Pathways to Recovery group programme had had on those that had completed the programme.

Further Research

The Helping Groups to Grow – Pathways to Recovery team are gathering information for a longitudinal study to measure the long-term impact of Pathways to Recovery group work programme.  Service users who have completed the 12 week programme have been completing the same standardised measures at 3, 6 and 12 months after completing the group work programme.  The results from these should be available in 2012.
